How to Get an Internship in IT

An internship for engineering students is like cream on top of an ice-cream. It’s helps in practical learning and doubles the chances of getting jobs. Your CV gains attention if recruiters find the term ‘internship’ from so-and-so company.
Internship training in Information Technology (IT) can act as a gem in the future.

There are many fields in it: e-commerce, digital marketing, website designing etc. But the most obvious question students face is – How do we get an Internship?
What IT students should know is the fact that ‘IT is revolutionizing’ the world and those effects are well-observed in India. Therefore, getting an Internship is not very difficult provided you are looking in the right direction. Here are some tips for you.
Analyze & Finalize
To ‘analyze and finalize’ is the start. In this process, you have to see what resources you have, what you need & how much is available. “Things are never the way they appear”. This is the one of the basic steps and hardly anyone will tell you this.

Network
As obvious as it may sound, speaking, calling and travelling around is necessary. Friends, classmates, a teacher, acquaintances, speak with everyone possible.
This also involves visiting job fairs. Many HR’s have Profiles on LinkedIn, send a PM and start making your way by asking about what you need and what they have to offer. Connect with your school alumni who are working at IT companies. It may sound too much but it works.

See Online Postings
Internet is a reserve of resources. Find appropriate websites offering job internships. Also, many IT companies have career pages in their website. Apply and send your resume. But, don’t rely on this very much as your resume might or might not reach the concerned person directly.

Cold-calling
Cold-calling is a suitable & successful technique. Shortlist some companies, ask for a meeting and put forward your internship proposal. But if this is the method you choose, then be ready, professionally.

Promptness
Once you have made contact with company, making contact with your employer is the next step. The key here is promptness. Recruiters are always busy. If they ask for your materials, show them. Send your resume, cover letter, portfolio or some amazing creative works like if you have designed websites or web pages as quickly as possible. They will appreciate the promptness.

Follow-up
Many students lose it because don’t follow-up. It’s as necessary as any other step because recruiters are busy people (as said already) and it’s you who needs the interview.

Interview
After all the hard-work, interview arrives. There are many types of interviews like telephonic interview, face-to-face interview, formal/informal interviews etc. But you need to remember just one thing, ‘acing’ it. Research the company, have confidence, look smart and prepare yourself for the basic interview questions.

Accepting The Offer
IT is a wide field, hence accepting an offer means you have taken ‘a new pledge’. Make sure to keep in mind the particulars: is the job suitable or feasible for you or is it the best you can manage? Answer these questions and make your choice. Be proud of it!
